How to Delete a Google Business Profile
Need to delete a Google Business Profile? Here's what to know before removing your listing.
By Katherine O. Jeremiah · October 2026

Deleting a Google Business Profile doesn’t always make your business disappear from Google Search and Maps. You can remove the profile from your account, lose access to its content, and still have the business listing show up when customers search for it.
What you should do depends on why you want the profile removed. You may have closed your business, found a duplicate listing, or simply no longer want to manage the profile. Each situation requires a different approach.
Because your profile plays a big role in local SEO, it helps to understand how Google’s removal options work before you delete anything. This guide explains how to delete a Google Business Profile, when to mark a business as permanently closed, and what happens to your photos, reviews, and access after removal.
How to Delete a Google Business Profile
If you own a Google Business Profile and no longer want to manage it, you can remove its content and managers through your profile settings. This action is permanent, so make sure you're working with the correct listing before proceeding.
Follow these steps to remove a profile:
- Sign in to the Google account associated with your Business Profile.
- Search for your business on Google or open Google Maps and find your listing.
- Open the profile management menu and select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Business Profile settings.
- Select Remove Business Profile.
- Choose Remove profile content and managers.
- Select Continue, review the warning, and confirm the removal.
Google's interface may vary slightly, so check its official Business Profile removal instructions if you can't find the relevant option.
You must have the required ownership permissions to remove profile content and managers. If you're a newly added owner or manager, Google may require you to wait seven days before you can perform certain actions.
Also, understand what you're confirming. Removing profile content and managers is different from deleting your entire Google account. It removes management access to the profile and permanently deletes certain content contributed by owners and managers.
How to Delete Multiple Google Business Profiles
If you manage several business locations, removing profiles individually can take time. Google Business Profile Manager offers a bulk removal option for eligible profiles.
Here's how to use it:
- Sign in to Google Business Profile Manager.
- Select the business profiles you want to remove.
- Open the Actions menu.
- Choose Remove businesses.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.
Check every selected listing before confirming. If you manage profiles for clients or multiple branches, removing the wrong one could disrupt access to information that another business still needs.
If you only want to close one location, you don't need to remove every profile. Update the affected location instead and leave the remaining business listings intact.
Should You Delete Your Profile or Mark Your Business as Closed?
Deleting your Google Business Profile isn't always the best solution. The right choice depends on whether your business has closed, you no longer want to manage the listing, or the profile shouldn't exist in the first place.
Remove the profile from your Google account
Choose this option if you no longer want to manage the profile and understand the consequences of removing its content and managers.
Only the primary owner can remove profile content and managers. If you're a manager or another owner, you may need the primary owner to complete the process.
Mark your business as permanently closed
If your business has stopped operating, mark it as permanently closed instead of immediately removing the profile from your account.
Open your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps, select Edit profile, then Hours. Under business hours, select the edit option and choose Permanently closed. Save your changes.
Google will display the closure status on Search and Maps. The listing may remain visible for some time, allowing customers to understand that the business is no longer operating.
Request removal of an ineligible listing
If a business never existed, a listing is a duplicate, or the profile doesn't meet Google's eligibility requirements, you can suggest an edit through Google Maps.
Search for the listing, select Suggest an edit, then choose Place closed or not here. Select the option that best describes the problem and submit your suggestion.
Google reviews submitted edits before making changes. Reporting a listing doesn't guarantee removal, and a business that has genuinely closed should not automatically be treated as an ineligible listing.
Remove yourself as an owner or manager
If you manage a client's profile or have left a business, you may only need to remove your own access.
Open the Business Profile, go to Business Profile settings, and select People and access. Choose your account, select Stop managing, and confirm.
If you're the primary owner, transfer primary ownership to someone else before removing yourself. Your previous posts and review replies may remain visible even after you stop managing the profile.
What Happens When You Delete a Google Business Profile?
Deleting a Google Business Profile can affect your business information, photos, reviews, and access to the listing. However, it doesn't necessarily mean your business will disappear from Google. Here's what you should know before proceeding.
1. Your business may still appear on Google. Removing your profile from your account doesn't automatically remove the business listing from Google Search and Maps, and it won’t erase your local citations on other directories either. If the listing remains eligible to appear, customers may still find it even after you lose management access.
2. Your photos, posts, videos, and review replies may be permanently deleted. Content added by owners and managers can be removed when you delete profile content and managers. Save any information you want to keep before confirming the action.
3. Customer reviews may remain visible. Reviews and other content submitted by customers aren't automatically deleted when you remove your profile from your account. If you're trying to get rid of a negative review, deleting the profile won't solve the problem. Instead, report the review if you believe it violates Google's policies.
4. Other owners and managers may lose access. Removing profile content and managers affects everyone associated with the listing, not just the person taking the action. If other people manage the business profile, let them know before proceeding.
Before making a decision, check that you're using the correct Google account and save any business information you may need later. If your goal is simply to stop managing the listing, removing your own access may be a better option.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deleting a Google Business Profile
Can you delete a Google Business Profile without deleting your Google account?
Yes. You can remove a Google Business Profile without deleting your Google account. Your Gmail, Google Drive, and other Google services will remain available. Only the Business Profile and its associated management access are affected.
How long does it take for a Google Business Profile to disappear after deletion?
There is no guaranteed timeframe. Removing a profile's content and managers does not automatically remove its public listing from Google Search and Maps. If you mark the business as permanently closed, Google may continue showing the listing with its closure status.
Can you restore a deleted Google Business Profile?
Removing profile content and managers is permanent, and Google does not provide a way to recover the deleted content through that profile. If you want to manage the business again, you may need to create or claim a Business Profile and complete Google's verification process.
Does deleting a Google Business Profile remove customer reviews?
No. Removing your Business Profile from your account does not automatically delete customer reviews. If a review violates Google's content policies, you can report it through the review management tools for Google to assess.
Can you delete a Google Business Profile without being the owner?
You cannot remove profile content and managers without the necessary ownership permissions. However, you can suggest an edit or report a listing that violates Google's guidelines through Google Maps. Google will review the request before making changes.
How do you remove a duplicate Google Business Profile?
To report a duplicate listing, open Google Maps, search for the profile, and select Suggest an edit. Choose Place closed or not here, then select Duplicate of another place and submit your suggestion. Google will review your request before updating the listing.
Should you delete your Google Business Profile when your business closes?
Not necessarily. If your business has permanently closed, marking the profile as permanently closed is usually the better option. This lets customers know the business is no longer operating while allowing the listing to remain visible with its closure status. Removing the profile from your account is a separate action.
